The Brisbane Ekka - the flu will keep me away this year

I’ve decided to work through the Brisbane Wednesday show holiday and avoid the Ekka crowds this year.
I’m recovering from a cold and I don’t want to expose myself to any other nasties that an estimated 500,000 people and thousands of domestic and farm animals expected to attend the Ekka could be carrying.
There’s been something like 1500 reported cases on flu this year in Queensland, a 200% increase on average.
The flu scare is having an impact on Ekka attendance as this story from the ABC details. This story also raises some questions over the balance between public health and commerce.
