Rumours about an Australian iPhone - I doubt it
May 2nd, 2008
There was a story this week on cnet picked up by News Limited, about the release of an Australian iPhone in late June. Sadly, I don’t believe a word of it.
There was speculation in the cnet article that this release may be 3G capable. I doubt that very much also. 3G modules are still very expensive, hungry on battery usage and like all new technologies, a little flaky.
My insiders in the 3G modem market have not noticed any spikes in module consumption as you’d expect if Apple was planning on selling a few million 3G iPhones.
My suggestion is if you do want an iPhone, don’t wait, just go out and buy one on eBay. Here’s my story.
